Lesson 2
Banjo Lesson 2b

Now that you have practiced all seven chords and can play them smoothly it's time to try "Waltzing Matilda"!

Below you will find the .PDF files for Waltzing Matilda in the "key of C", with the melody notes, the chord names above them, and something new---the "Tab" for the melody notes.

Below the .PDF files are two Audio files. One is the verse and chorus playing all four strings with down and some up strokes. The second audio file is played picking the 4th string on the first beat and down and up strokes on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th beat. For the "F" chord the 3rd string is picked on the first beat and some times I will pick a string on the 1st and 3rd beats.

Remember this song is in 4/4 time: One, two, three, four--One, two, three, four.

Listen to the first audio file then play along with it. Remember you can remove my voice by just moving your "Balance" control to the right.

Listen to the second audio file, then try to play along with it also.

Here's a practice audio file demonstrating the "Pick down, Down stroke, up stroke, I use in audio file 2. Right Hand 1

It doesn't mater which string you "Pick down", it can be the 4th, or 3rd, or 2nd string. Try them all and see which one you like.

When playing the up stroke, you can just stroke the 1st string. For this example, there's no need to up stroke the entire 4 strings.

When you can play "Waltzing Matilda" all the way through continue to page 3
