How To Read The Fret Position Chord Graphs

Over each melody note on the staff there is a chord fingering position graph. Each black dot shows where to place your fingers on the fretboard of your banjo. As in Diagrams 1 & 2 below.

The strings are always from left to right: CGBD, D is always on the right. Most of the melody notes will be on this first (D) string. However sometimes it will be necessary to use another string as the melody note.
The X above a string means Not to play that string. An 0 above a string means to play that string OPEN
Sometimes when the chord is near the PEGHEAD of the banjo the "NUT" will be shown as a thick black bar as shown in diagram 1
The number next to the first (D) string is the fret where the melody note for the chord is located.
